Planned Giving Officer - Midwest Region

The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS), a leading organization in animal advocacy, is seeking a dedicated Planned Giving Officer to join our Planned Giving department. This role focuses on nurturing, soliciting, and managing relationships with both existing and prospective donors within the Midwest region, including states such as Illinois, Texas, Oklahoma, Missouri, Arkansas, Michigan, and Indiana.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Identify and document bequest intentions and beneficiary designations from potential donors in the assigned region;
  • Engage with marketing initiatives, respond to individual inquiries, and conduct personal outreach to generate leads for solicitation;
  • Cultivate relationships with Humane Legacy supporters, emphasizing high-value commitments and affluent donors;
  • Promote and secure Charitable Gift Annuities;
  • Achieve fundraising goals through direct annual contributions from a designated portfolio of donors, assisting them with various giving methods, including IRA rollovers and gifts of stock;
  • Stay informed about organizational achievements and developments to provide accurate information to donors and prospects;
  • Maintain knowledge of trends in charitable gift planning and relevant tax laws;
  • Undertake additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience is required; advanced certifications such as CAP, CFRE, or CFP are preferred;
  • At least seven years of experience in fundraising, donor relations, or a related field is essential;
  • Familiarity with planned gift models and software, such as PG Calc, is advantageous;
  • Experience with moves management and CRM systems is preferred;
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and a proactive approach to work;
  • Ability to foster a positive work environment and manage multiple deadlines effectively;
  • Strong problem-solving and conflict resolution skills;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities;
  • Understanding of business operations, including budget management;
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to delivering high-quality outcomes;
  • Willingness to travel as necessary; reliable transportation is required;
  • A strong passion for animal welfare is preferred.

Note: This position requires residency in the Midwest region of the United States, ideally within proximity to a major airport.
