Retail Logistics and Production Manager

Sparks Group is seeking a highly experienced Retail Logistics and Production Manager to join their team in Charlottesville, Virginia. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in apparel production and logistics, with a proven track record of leading cross-functional teams and managing complex supply chains.
Key Responsibilities:- Lead cross-functional teams to ensure timely delivery of raw materials, production, and finished goods.
- Forge strong partnerships with departments to guarantee product quality and cost-effectiveness.
- Oversee factory networks, managing domestic and international relationships to ensure compliance, quality, and on-time production.
- Collaborate with design and product development teams to establish seasonal handoff dates.
- Develop and manage production calendars, including timelines and action items.
- Manage capacity and projections, reviewing seasonal projections with factories and addressing concerns with merchandising.
- Streamline communication, acting as the primary contact with merchandising to ensure accurate order placement.
- Optimize logistics, overseeing on-time material orders and choosing the most cost-effective method for freight transportation.
- Maintain quality standards, acting as the main liaison with factories to ensure adherence to compliance mandates and quality specifications.
- Manage costing and profitability, partnering with product development for negotiation of production costs and maintaining master cost files.
- Expand vendor portfolios, sourcing and onboarding new factories to diversify suppliers.
- Proactively solve problems, anticipating potential sourcing or costing challenges due to global events.
- Ensure financial accuracy and timeliness, reconciling invoices and managing timely payments with accounting.
- Deliver and prioritize orders, managing on-time product delivery and prioritizing orders to meet fluctuating company needs.
- Provide weekly status reports on all open orders, including updated estimated times of arrival.
- Oversee material and finished goods quality control processes, tracking damage rates and addressing production issues.
- Build strong relationships with third-party logistics providers, promoting operational excellence within the supply chain.
- Manage financial, operational, and business performance analysis of 3PL and transportation segments to achieve annual targets.
- Continuously improve distribution and logistics networks, tracking and reporting on key operational metrics.
- Develop innovative solutions to lower costs and attain business goals, utilizing data analytics and industry expertise.
- Collaborate with internal teams and 3PL providers to resolve operational issues and minimize chargebacks.
- Conduct regular audits of 3PL and freight providers to ensure adherence to service level agreements and pricing agreements.
- Provide cross-functional partners with insightful and actionable weekly reports on ongoing production progress.
- Deliver end-of-season production hindsight reports to cross-functional partners for continuous improvement.
- Lead and develop your team by setting clear goals and fostering a collaborative work environment.
Qualifications:
- 8+ years of experience in apparel production and logistics, with proven leadership skills.
- Demonstrated expertise in both domestic and import production, with a strong preference for experience across both accessories and apparel.
- In-depth understanding of Incoterms and logistics processes.
- Experience managing multi-channel fulfillment, including direct-to-consumer and wholesale operations.
- Hands-on experience in sourcing, vendor onboarding, customer/wear-testing/durability analysis, prototype sampling, and quality control.
- Strong grasp of retail math concepts, including margins, cost optimization, inventory turnover, forecasting techniques, operational systems, and contract negotiation.
- Sharp analytical skills with a continuous improvement mindset.
- Exceptional communication ability to clearly convey strategies across all levels and departments.
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and adept at prioritizing workloads to meet deadlines while remaining adaptable to shifting priorities.
- Proven leadership and people management skills, with excellent communication and ability to collaborate across functions.
- Advanced proficiency in Excel.
- Experience with Product Lifecycle Management systems preferred, especially Centric.
- Team player with a 'no task is beneath me' attitude.
