Job Summary

The Senior Bridge Engineer will lead the design of AASHTO bridges, overseeing the development of engineering projects that impact major organization programs. This role involves exploring subject areas, defining scope, and selecting problems for investigation, as well as developing novel concepts and approaches. The successful candidate will maintain liaison with individuals and units within or outside the organization, acting independently on technical matters related to bridge design.

Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure all engineering work adheres to good engineering practice.
  • Familiarity with the AASHTO Code for bridge design and OpenBridge software for bridge analysis.
  • Prepare bridge plans that meet ALDOT Bridge Bureau requirements, with the ability to perform similar functions for multiple states.
  • Handle preliminary design studies, project planning, layouts, and other activities leading to project engineering.
  • Consult with clients, engineers, architects, vendors, and others to determine practical and desirable engineering designs within budget.
  • Select suitable materials and equipment in accordance with good engineering practices.
  • Prepare accurate estimates of drawings and resources necessary for project engineering.
  • Write specifications for materials and equipment in a clear, concise manner.
  • Anticipate information needed and take necessary action to obtain it.
  • Prepare detailed engineering designs, including cost estimates and schedules, in compliance with applicable codes, regulations, and restrictions.
  • Organize, schedule, and direct the work of others to make efficient use of personnel and budget.
  • Direct and supervise Engineers, Associates, Designers, Drafters, and Technicians, assuming responsibility for all work done under direction.
  • Coordinate work with designers, architects, estimators, purchasing personnel, management, and others involved in the project.
  • Complete work on time and within budget and resource estimate.
  • Market TCO company services to current and potential clients, participating in business development activities and providing completed project write-ups and updated resume information as requested.
  • Follow TCO company policies and procedures regarding safety and quality.
  • Coordinate personnel participation on projects for which the Senior Engineer is the lead discipline for multiple discipline projects.
  • Ensure on-time and regular attendance.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited institution or registration as a Professional Engineer.
  • A minimum of ten plus years of engineering experience.
  • Demonstrated capability to perform at this level.
  • The ability to express ideas clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
