Firefighter/EMT-B Specialist

The Firefighter/EMT-B position at King William County requires a highly skilled and dedicated individual to perform a wide range of duties, including fire suppression, emergency medical care, and rescue operations. This is a full-time salaried position that offers a comprehensive benefits package and opportunities for career growth and development.
Key Responsibilities- Respond to emergency and non-emergency calls to protect lives and property through fire suppression and emergency medical care.
- Perform hazardous tasks requiring strenuous physical exertion in hot and smoky environments with limited visibility.
- Maintain and operate fire and EMS equipment, including vehicles and power tools.
- Conduct regular maintenance and inspections of firefighting equipment and apparatus.
- Participate in fire prevention, public education, and public relations activities.
- Work effectively as a team member under the supervision of a firefighter or officer.
- Communicate effectively and coherently over radio channels and with Emergency Communication Center Dispatchers and other County Departments.
- Stay up-to-date with new trends and innovations in fire suppression, emergency medical care, and related fields.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; firefighting and emergency medical training preferred.
- Valid vehicle operator's license and good driving record required.
- Certifications in NREMT-Basic, CPR, Emergency Vehicle Operations Course S-3, ICS 100, 200, 700, 800, VDFP Certified Firefighter II, and Hazardous Materials Operations required.
- Ability to work well under stress, flexibility, creativity, and sensitivity in response to changing situations and needs.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of patient information.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment and communicate effectively with others.
The working environment is both indoors and outdoors, presenting conditions that may include exposure to adverse weather and hazardous pollutants. The employee must be able to complete physically demanding tasks in all-weather situations and conditions.
Physical RequirementsThe employee must be able to sit, stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or operate objects, tools, or controls, and reach and stretch with hands and arms with a full range of motion. The employee must also be able to climb or balance, jump, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and talk and taste or smell. The employee must be able to wear and perform in self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA).
All employees in this position are required to pass an annual physical provided by the County.
