Role: Senior Educator

Hourly Rate: $32.98 based on experience ($38,992 - $52,768 annualized)

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Senior Educator fosters an inclusive classroom atmosphere, working with diverse student populations, and plans and implements educational programs in line with Encompass and Early Childhood Education and Assistance Program (ECEAP) Performance Standards.

This role will lead a classroom team and coordinate with other program and organizational staff to provide comprehensive support for each child and their family.


KEY DUTIES:

Planning and Preparation:

Curriculum Development:

Designs and organizes a daily schedule of classroom activities; prepares and executes lesson plans that adhere to ECEAP performance standards and program service plans; provides a holistic, integrated curriculum that meets the needs of every child, including those with disabilities.


Documentation:

Maintains detailed observations of individual children throughout the year; develops personalized learning plans for each child within 90 days of school entry; keeps complete and confidential records on each child.


Professional Growth:

Enhances knowledge and skills through participation in training sessions, staff meetings, and other professional development opportunities, including 10 hours of MERIT-approved training annually.


In-Class Responsibilities:

Instruction:

Delivers lesson plans in accordance with ECEAP performance standards and program service plans; provides a comprehensive curriculum that meets the needs of every child.


Support:

Engages positively with all children to foster their individual learning and emotional well-being.


Meal Service:

Assists with the serving of snacks and meals; facilitates mealtime service and conversation.


Health and Safety:

Teaches and oversees health practices in the classroom, such as hand washing and tooth brushing; administers first aid as necessary and checks the environment for safety hazards.


Supervision:

Oversees and trains teaching assistants and volunteers; assists in training family/community volunteers to support classroom activities.



Family Engagement:

Educational Meetings:

Conducts annual educational planning meetings with each ECEAP child's family; meets with non-ECEAP families twice a year to involve them in the educational planning process.


Communication:

Maintains regular and respectful communication with families, encouraging their involvement in the educational program and supporting them in achieving their personal goals.


Family Events:

Collaborates with the preschool team to plan and facilitate family events and meetings.


Transitions:

Works with families and the preschool team to ensure smooth transitions to before-and-after-school care and between Encompass and Kindergarten.


  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:
  • Bachelor's degree in early childhood education or child development with one year of relevant experience, or an Associate's degree in the same field with two years of experience in a preschool, childcare, or kindergarten setting, or a valid Washington State Elementary Teaching Certificate with an endorsement in Early Childhood Education or Special Education focusing on Early Childhood Education.

Preferred Skills:
  • Strong leadership and communication abilities.
  • Knowledge of developmentally appropriate practices for preschool-aged children.
  • Awareness of the individual experiences and societal impacts affecting families and children.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, staff, and volunteers in a diverse environment.
  • Flexibility to adapt to various situations and instructional concepts.
  • Basic clerical skills, including record keeping and filing.
  • Willingness to attend occasional evening meetings and visit parents in their homes.
  • Ability to supervise students during field trips.
  • Capability to motivate the team and delegate responsibilities.

CERTIFICATIONS:
  • Required prior to the first day of employment: TB screening and MMR documentation, cleared background check through the Department of Child, Youth, and Family Services (DCYF), MERIT registration, and STARS ID.

Within 45 days of hire:
  • First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Food and Beverage Handler's Permit.
  • Teaching Strategies Gold Inter-rater reliability certification.
  • Other role-specific training as required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • This position requires the ability to exert 10 to 20 pounds of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
  • Involves sitting, walking, or standing, and may include some running.
