Job Summary

As a Facilities Maintenance Specialist at the YMCA of Virginia's Blue Ridge, you will be responsible for providing ongoing preventative and emergency maintenance services to ensure the building and equipment are well maintained for staff and members. This role requires strong technical knowledge in facilities maintenance or building contracting, as well as excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Key Responsibilities

* Inspect and evaluate the physical condition of facilities and equipment
* Make repairs to facilities as needed, including basic electrical, carpentry, HVAC, plumbing, and mechanical work
* Supervise and support housekeeping staff
* Periodically inventory supplies and equipment
* Work with outside contractors to ensure equipment is safe and mechanically sound
* Attend meetings as designated
* Participate in departmental budgetary planning

Work Environment/Physical and Mental Demands

* Ability to work independently and take ownership of tasks and deadlines
* Knowledge of approved sanitation methods
* Awareness and knowledge of safety standards
* Frequent bending, kneeling, stooping, and repetitive arm/hand movements
* Lifting of up to 50 lbs
* Occasional pushing and pulling of heavy furniture and equipment

Qualifications

* Associate's degree (A.A.) from a 2-year college or vocational school; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
* Technical knowledge in facilities maintenance or building contracting
* Ability to read, analyze, and interpret building blueprints, professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations
* Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals
* Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public
