Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Facilities Maintenance Specialist to join our team at the YMCA of Virginia's Blue Ridge. As a key member of our facilities team, you will be responsible for ensuring the upkeep and maintenance of our buildings and equipment, providing a safe and healthy environment for our staff and members.

Key Responsibilities
  • Inspect and evaluate the physical condition of facilities and equipment, identifying areas for repair and maintenance.
  • Perform routine maintenance tasks, including basic electrical, carpentry, HVAC, plumbing, and mechanical repairs.
  • Supervise and support housekeeping staff, ensuring that facilities are clean and well-maintained.
  • Inventory supplies and equipment, ordering replacements as needed.
  • Work with outside contractors to ensure equipment is safe and mechanically sound.
  • Attend meetings as designated and participate in departmental budgetary planning.
  • Assure preventative maintenance schedules are adhered to within scheduled timelines.
Requirements
  • Associate's degree (A.A.) from a 2-year college or vocational school; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Technical knowledge in facilities maintenance or building contracting.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret building blueprints, professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
Working Conditions

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The job requires frequent bending, kneeling, stooping, and repetitive arm/hand movements. Lifting of up to 50 lbs. is required. Occasional pushing and pulling of heavy furniture and equipment. Occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, outside weather conditions, and risk of electrical shock.
