  • Conducts follow-up care and interventions for patients experiencing issues such as ostomies, draining wounds, fistulae, or skin breakdown due to various medical conditions.
  • Offers direct patient care and counseling for individuals preparing for surgeries that may lead to stoma creation, providing tailored guidance for those with abdominal stomas.
  • Evaluates and recommends treatment options for skin breakdown conditions, assisting patients in navigating their care continuum.
  • Educates healthcare professionals, including physicians and nursing staff, on best practices in ostomy and wound care management, ensuring adherence to current standards.
  • Facilitates educational programs for patients and families, promoting self-management and understanding of ostomy and wound care.

Qualifications:


Experience:

· A minimum of one (1) year of clinical nursing experience as a Registered Nurse, specifically in caring for patients with abdominal stomas, draining wounds, fistulas, and pressure ulcers.


Education:

· Bachelor's Degree in Nursing.

· Completion of an accredited Wound, Ostomy, Continence Nursing (WOCN) program.


Licensure and Certification:

· Active Registered Nurse License.

· Certification in Wound Care Nursing from the Wound, Ostomy and Continence Nursing Certification Board.

· Basic Life Support certification.

· Certification in Ostomy Care Nursing from the Wound, Ostomy and Continence Nursing Certification Board.


Additional Skills:

· Strong knowledge of patient education principles for both pediatric and adult populations.

· Comprehensive understanding of the gastrointestinal, genitourinary, and integumentary systems, including their pathophysiology.

· Excellent communication abilities.

· Fine motor skills for precise care delivery.

· Certification as a Certified Continence Nurse (CCCN) is required.


Preferred Qualifications:

· Current Board Certification in Wound, Ostomy, Continence Nursing (CWOCN).
