About the Department:

Information Technology Services is the central IT organization serving the Commonwealth of Virginia. We provide essential IT resources, systems, services, and tools to support the university community.

The Learning Space Design team is dedicated to enhancing educational experiences by:

  • Overseeing numerous large-scale technology upgrade projects for formal and informal learning environments, specialized laboratories, and various meeting spaces;
  • Designing instructional technology systems for classrooms;
  • Recommending innovative technologies to further the educational mission; and
  • Establishing university-wide AV standards.

About the Position:

The AV Project Manager is tasked with managing design initiatives that support educational activities in new constructions, renovations, and technology upgrades. This role is crucial in developing departmental standards that are reliable, cost-effective, and utilize commercially available industry hardware, software, and systems.

Responsibilities:

  • Project Management: Collaborates with team members across various units within ITS and the university on classroom and lab projects, as well as other assignments; manages all facets of learning space projects from initial design through planning, engineering, equipment procurement, implementation, vendor relations, testing, and commissioning for classroom support; oversees project planning, scheduling, training, budgeting, and team coordination; ensures adherence to project budgeting processes and completion; and delivers all required project outcomes on time and within budget.
  • Learning Environments & Instructional Technology Design: Provides consultation services for learning spaces and meeting rooms; coordinates and advises on new technology installations and upgrades; collaborates with AV Engineers to create AutoCAD drawings for AV installation projects; engages with faculty and staff to gather requirements and develop technology solutions; contributes to the maintenance of university classroom technology standards; and works with the Learning Space Design Manager to develop the overall architecture for AV systems.
  • Soft Projects: Responsible for various soft projects that support the goals of the university, which may include systems for ticketing, enterprise-level support, and project ramp-up; ensures all soft projects are documented and closed upon completion.
  • Strategic Planning: Collaborates with the Learning Space Design Manager to create long-term technology and budgetary plans; supports data requests for initiatives and planning; conducts research on user requirements for new installations; and assists in analyzing data to inform future project roadmaps.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • PMI, PMP, CAPM certification or the ability to obtain CAPM certification within the first year of employment preferred;
  • Experience creating AutoCAD drawings for AV upgrades in existing and renovated spaces;
  • Proven experience working in a project team environment to complete AV installation projects under tight deadlines;
  • Strong organizational and management skills;
  • Demonstrated experience with large-scale AV/technology projects;
  • Collaborative working style essential for successful project completion;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • Experience with AutoCAD drawings for installation projects; and
  • Commitment to providing excellent customer service in a technical environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in a related field;
  • Experience managing AV installation projects in a higher education setting; and
  • Experience overseeing AV technology projects in a higher education context.
