Juvenile Probation Supervisor

The County of Montgomery, PA is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Juvenile Probation Supervisor to oversee daily operations and provide direct supervision of probation officers. This is a critical role that requires strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Key Responsibilities- Oversee daily operations and provide direct supervision of probation officers
- Monitor unit probation officers' duties to ensure caseloads are properly managed and in compliance with the Orders of the Juvenile Court
- Assign juvenile offenders and monitor supervision contacts
- Review progress of each probation officer's caseload to ensure juvenile offenders' criminogenic needs, investigations, court reports, reporting requirements, and all court-ordered conditions are being met and addressed in a timely manner
- Conduct caseload audits, routine case reviews, maintain statistics, and review reports
- Guide, monitor, and assist juvenile probation officers in the performance of their duties, ensuring that juvenile offender cases are handled properly and to fidelity
- Develop and conduct trainings for the department as needed
- Assist with management roles related to departmental operations, office management, and the creation, implementation of department policy and procedures
- Participate in all management meetings and provide input for management decisions
- Bachelor's degree and 5 years' experience as a juvenile probation officer or equivalent experience in the field of the criminal justice system
- Knowledge of department policy and procedures
- Excellent oral, written, organizational, and communication skills
- Knowledge of court procedures and processes
- Knowledge of mental health issues and treatment strategies
- Knowledge of the juvenile case management automated system (JCMS)
- Counseling and/or case management experience
- Knowledge of juvenile probation, the Juvenile Act, and Juvenile Rules of Court
- Public safety skills
- Knowledge of treatment programs and government agencies
- Knowledge of the criminal justice system
- Management and leadership skills
- Basic knowledge of Juvenile Justice System Enhancement Strategies (JJSES) to include the Youth Level of Service (YLS) assessment, Motivational Interviewing (MI), Child Trauma Screen (CTS), Trauma-Informed Decision Making Protocol (TIDP), Brief Intervention Tools (BITS), etc.
The work environment is typically moderate, with occasional exposure to noise and stress. The employee must be able to stand, walk, sit, and talk and hear regularly. The employee is occasionally required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands or arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
