Beaumont, Texas, is a vibrant community with over 118,000 residents, situated in the Gulf Coast region of the United States. Beaumont is renowned for producing Mobil 1, the leading synthetic motor oil globally, and is the sole manufacturer of Mobil Aviation Greases. Our product range also includes fuels and chemical compounds utilized in various applications, such as plastics and Nylon.

Role Overview

We are looking for Senior Chemical Process Engineers to join our team, focusing on either Naphtha Reforming or Distillation technology at the Beaumont Refinery.

As a Senior Chemical Process Engineer (Complex Engineer), you will play a crucial role in ensuring the efficient operation of our facilities. You will be responsible for initiating and leading enhancements to unit performance in terms of safety, production, and reliability within a collaborative team environment. Your strategic thinking, thoughtful execution, and ability to collaborate across various teams and levels will be essential. In this capacity, you will act as a senior technical resource, offering expertise to tackle complex processes across business units.

Complex Engineers primarily focus on establishing long-term visions for unit performance and troubleshooting while also supporting daily operations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Act as the technical leader within the business team by:
    • Mentoring junior engineers on design methodologies, unit health assessments, and troubleshooting techniques
    • Providing off-hours support for abnormal and non-routine operations, including unit Turnarounds
    • Assisting in the formulation of long-term strategies for product line enhancements
    • Organizing and designing plant testing and product trials
    • Collaborating with supervisors to establish clear objectives and ensure alignment of priorities for the technical team
    • Influencing stakeholders and driving solutions without direct authority
  • Collaborate in a team setting with other engineering disciplines, operations, and mechanical personnel while interfacing with corporate technology support
    • Ability to engage with third-party vendors for cost optimization and solution development
  • Serve as a process safety resource on the business team, leading Hazard and Operability Reviews (HAZOPs) and Risk Assessments by formulating closure plans and strategies for identified risks
    • Lead and support incident investigations as the technical lead
  • Assist in the development and implementation of various capital projects aimed at enhancing margins or mitigating SHE risks
  • Provide on-site support during plant startups, shutdowns, or operational upsets
  • Exhibit the courage to drive constructive discussions for both the business team and corporate technology support to achieve optimal outcomes
Qualifications

Required Skills
  • B.S. in Chemical Engineering
  • 10+ years of experience in Downstream Oil and Gas Refining, with a focus on either Distillation or Naphtha Reforming Technology
Preferred Skills/Experience
  • Experience in process design
  • Familiarity with advanced control strategies and optimization software
  • Working knowledge of RBI practices (corrosion damage mechanisms, mitigations, etc.)
  • Experience in risk assessment and HAZOP
  • Understanding of safety relief limits (modeling and evaluations)
  • Proficiency in modeling software (PROII, ASPEN, etc.)
  • Kinetic Modeling experience (SOL, KBC Profimatics, etc.)
