Job Summary

We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Special Education Teacher to join our team at Atlantis Academy. As a Special Education Teacher, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality education to students with disabilities in grades 6-12, with a focus on science.

Responsibilities
  • Plan, prepare, and implement instructional processes for students with disabilities in the classroom, including delivery of instruction, implementation of curriculum materials and educational software, and development of daily lesson plans and classroom schedules.
  • Provide a collaborative environment for students, parents, and administrative personnel, establishing a climate that promotes social development and group responsibility.
  • Implement established school-wide and classroom Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) programs, reinforcement systems, behavioral expectations, and consequence guidelines.
  • Record student progress/records, maintain student files, and prepare reports on students and activities.
  • Provide direct subject-based instruction and/or work in a team environment to collaboratively and/or co-teach curricular subjects.
  • Modify curriculum and assist with differentiated instruction for students, using a variety of instructional strategies and resources to respond to the diverse needs and interests of students.
  • Act as case manager to special education students, preparing daily lesson plans and materials for assigned classes.
  • Report incidents (e.g. fights, suspected child abuse, suspected substance abuse, etc.) to maintain the personal safety of students and adhere to State and Federal law.
  • Maintain the classroom, furniture, and supplies in a neat and orderly condition according to procedure.
  • Keep up to date with research-based practices and developments in the subject area.
  • Respond constructively to formal and informal feedback.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in education or a related field.
  • Prior experience working with curriculum development, differentiation, and instruction in a classroom setting.
  • Prior experience working in a special education program setting is preferred.
  • Prior experience working with children with autism and related disabilities is preferred.
  • Solid motivational, problem-solving, decision-making, and organizational skills.
  • Willingness to be flexible and adapt to changing priorities and new initiatives.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Highly skilled in working with students with diverse needs.
