The Material Handling Specialist plays a crucial role in assisting the crane operator with the movement of various materials, including panels, hardware, and production equipment, essential for daily operations.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Responsible for effectively signaling the crane operator during the lifting and positioning of materials.
· Utilizes rigging equipment for the safe transportation, storage, and delivery of precast components.
· Engages in the hooking and unhooking of lifting cables, ring clutches, and spreader bars.
· Guides the crane while maintaining constant communication via two-way radio with the crane operator, especially in areas with limited visibility.
· Organizes dunnage for the proper storage of panels in racks or trailers for distribution.
EDUCATION, SKILLS, AND QUALIFICATIONS:
· A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred, though not mandatory.
· Ability to collaborate effectively within a team and demonstrate strong communication skills.
· Must remain vigilant and aware of surroundings at all times.
· Committed to maintaining cleanliness and adhering to safety protocols.
· Capability to climb ladders, man-lifts, and scaffolding, and work at heights.
· Additional duties may be assigned as necessary.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
In performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to stand, twist, and walk. The role involves using various hand tools or controls, reaching with hands and arms, climbing or balancing on elevated surfaces, and performing actions such as stooping, kneeling, squatting, crouching, or crawling.
Continuous standing and walking across a large worksite is expected.
The work environment is typically loud, and the employee must be able to lift and/or move items weighing up to 50 pounds. This position requires ongoing medium to heavy physical labor.
Employees must wear personal protective equipment (PPE), including steel-toed work boots, hard hats, gloves, safety glasses, and hearing protection.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
This role involves both indoor and outdoor work, with exposure to various weather conditions such as sun, heat, humidity, cold, wind, light rain, sand, and dust.
