Quality Manager Job Description

Mayville Engineering Company, Inc. is seeking a highly skilled Quality Manager to lead our Quality Systems and team in Byron Center, Michigan. This is an exciting opportunity to work with a world-class team and drive quality improvements to achieve exceptional customer satisfaction.

The Quality Manager will provide leadership and support to the Performance Structures Division in the development and improvement of MEC Quality Management systems that meet IATF16949 requirements. Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading and supporting the activities of the Performance Structures Division in the development and improvement of MEC Quality Management systems.
  • Planning, developing, implementing, training, and assessing the effectiveness of MEC's quality systems to improve internal and outgoing product quality.
  • Interacting with all functional areas in the company to ensure seamless processes are in place that are effective and efficient to meet quality standards and expectations.
  • Monitoring current quality metrics to assess and ensure processes are not only in compliance but also functioning as planned.
  • Identifying quality issues, non-conformances, and leading corrective action to ensure quality meets or exceeds customer requirements.
  • Leading, developing, and directing a cross-functional team of Engineers and Technicians.
  • Effectively analyzing data and driving issues to root cause.
  • Proficient in using Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification is a plus.
  • Responsible for the audit function and leading efforts to achieve compliance with any new quality standards that new and existing customers require.
  • Leading all internal and external audits to ensure compliance to IATF TS16949 standards.
  • Having knowledge of the IATF standards and working with Registrars.
  • Ensuring compliance to ISO14001 standard.
  • Participating in daily/weekly/monthly management Key Performance Indicators (KPI) reviews and preparing RCCAs as needed.
  • Working directly with customers and presenting quality data, describing root causes, understanding manufacturing processes, and communicating effective plans.
  • Responsible for initiating corrective actions (CARs) both internally and externally to suppliers.
  • Working effectively across cross-functional teams and supporting the Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) process.

Qualifications:

We are looking for candidates with a minimum of a Bachelor's degree in a related field and 5-7 years of quality management experience in a contract manufacturing environment. Experience with metal fabrication, welding, assembly, and paint, along with experience with quality improvement tools (Lean Six Sigma, Statistical Process Control, and Failure Mode and Effects Analysis), is also required. Professional certifications (CQA, CQE, etc.) are a plus. The ideal candidate will be a great leader with solid communication, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to develop and motivate a team.
