POSITION SUMMARY:
The City of Lowell is seeking up to ten (10) individuals who are dedicated to promoting sustainable practices within the community or are associated with local business organizations. The council comprises experts from diverse sectors, including architects, legal professionals, builders, educators, engineers, homeowners, manufacturers, and others, all possessing knowledge in climate science, conservation, and recycling.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Participate in monthly meetings scheduled for every 4th Thursday
- Attend Special Meetings as required
- Engage in Volunteer Activities
The Sustainability Council is vital in fostering environmentally responsible initiatives in the city by advocating for and supporting 'green' design, construction, and development practices. Duties encompass promoting sustainable policies, programs, and educational efforts aimed at enhancing sustainability and minimizing environmental impacts associated with building and development projects. This includes focusing on areas such as carbon emissions, waste reduction, recycling, energy efficiency, and more.
Additional responsibilities include:
- Investigating successful sustainability models from other municipalities
- Presenting programs and policies to local government entities
- Collaborating with educational institutions to develop outreach initiatives
- Identifying funding opportunities for green building and energy conservation projects
