About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Coding Specialist to join our team at Dermatology Associates of Virginia. As a key member of our staff, you will play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy and efficiency of our coding processes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Translate authenticated provider documentation and operative reports into accurate CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS codes for billing purposes.
  • Retrieve and maintain medical records, ensuring compliance with ethical, legal, and regulatory requirements.
  • Utilize knowledge of CPT, ICD-10, and current insurance guidelines to analyze and interpret patient medical records.
  • Review claims data to ensure assigned codes meet required legal and insurance rules.
  • Assist in the resolution of payment denials and independently resolve selected denials.
  • Efficiently solve patient billing inquiries, collect payment, and set payment plans.
  • Conduct audits and coding reviews to ensure all documentation is accurate and precise.
  • Communicate regularly with providers to clarify documentation issues or other related issues.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Code knowledge of ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS or certification through an accredited source in the near future.
  • Experience with insurance follow-up on denials and appeals.
  • Proficient in computer programs, including Microsoft Office and Outlook.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Certified Professional Coder certification.
  • One-year experience in the medical coding field.
Work Environment

This is a full-time position with a standard office environment. The employee is frequently required to sit, walk, use hands to finger, handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms.

This is a largely sedentary role. The employee is frequently required to sit, walk, use hands to finger, handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms.

Travel

No travel is expected for this position.

Required Education and Experience

Preferred Education and Experience

Certified Professional Coder certification. One-year experience in the medical coding field.
