Isaacs Center are well-established organizations in Manhattan, collectively managing an annual budget of approximately $63 million. They deliver essential services to around 30,000 residents of New York City, focusing on diverse populations including children, families, homeless individuals, and senior citizens.

Program Description: Operating within a framework of social justice, these organizations empower individuals and families to improve their lives. The Community Housing Engagement Specialist plays a crucial role in the Manhattan Outreach Consortium, engaging with individuals experiencing homelessness in lower Manhattan, with the objective of facilitating their transition into both temporary and permanent housing solutions.

Purpose of Position: This role employs a harm reduction strategy to connect with individuals facing street homelessness, serving as their case manager with the aim of securing housing placements. Success in this position relies heavily on collaboration with various teams and partner organizations.

Schedule: Monday to Friday, 5:30 am - 1:30 pm

Salary: $36,454.60

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Act as a case manager for adults experiencing homelessness, facilitating their placement in transitional and permanent housing.
  • Conduct comprehensive intake assessments and develop service plans.
  • Maintain accurate client records and manage data entry in relevant systems.
  • Provide ongoing case management support for clients who have secured housing.
  • Coordinate with other agencies to ensure comprehensive client services.
  • Engage in outreach activities and participate in homeless counts.
  • Operate the outreach vehicle as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree is preferred.
  • Experience working with homeless or mentally ill populations is advantageous.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license and a clean driving record.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of housing-first and harm reduction models.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and work collaboratively within a team.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook and various computer databases.

Physical Requirements:

  • Frequent walking and standing are required.
  • Capability to lift items weighing up to 30 lbs.

Work Environment: This position involves both indoor and outdoor work in various weather conditions.
