JOB OVERVIEW

The Patient Services Specialist is responsible for a variety of entry-level intake and administrative tasks related to patient admissions and outpatient services. This includes gathering demographic, insurance, and medical details; processing co-pays and deposits; scheduling follow-up visits; and ordering diagnostic tests as needed.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conducts interviews with patients to collect necessary demographic and insurance information for medical record management and billing processes.
  • Enters patient registration data into the computer system and ensures the accuracy of the information provided.
  • Supplies patients with precise medical, financial, and procedural information. Engages in discussions regarding financial arrangements with patients and their families.
  • Facilitates the flow of patients and information by directing individuals to appropriate locations, coordinating patient transport, managing incoming calls, and providing clerical assistance.
  • Prepares necessary forms and maintains an inventory of supplies as required.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Familiarity with patient registration processes and documentation.
  • Understanding of medical insurance claims procedures and documentation.
  • Proficiency in using personal computers and relevant software applications.
  • Ability to prepare and maintain patient records accurately.
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Effective verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Capability to gather patient demographic information and confirm insurance eligibility.
  • Enrollment in the PSS training program and successful completion of the competency exam are necessary to maintain the PSS position.
