Position Overview

Summary

First Church Academy for Young Children is a licensed and NAEYC accredited institution dedicated to providing quality care for children from 6 weeks to 5 years old. Our operational hours are from 7:30 am to 5:30 pm.

The role of the Substitute Teacher offers flexible hours, allowing for a schedule that accommodates your personal commitments.


Under the guidance of the Lead Teacher, the Substitute Teacher will support the classroom team in fostering a warm, nurturing, and secure environment. This role is essential in enhancing children's self-esteem, promoting independence, and respecting their individuality.

The Substitute Teacher is expected to adhere to the protocols outlined in the First Church Academy for Young Children (FCAYC) Staff Manual and uphold the ethical standards set by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC).

This position is hourly and contingent upon the needs of the school.


Key Responsibilities


1. Collaborate with the classroom teacher/staff to review the substitute folder, understanding the day's schedule, number of children, and specific duties beyond the general substitute guidelines.

2. Provide a safe, loving, and nurturing atmosphere for the children.


3. Address the individual needs of children across all developmental areas—physical, emotional, social, and intellectual—tailored to their respective developmental stages.

4. Implement developmentally appropriate and positive guidance as directed by the Lead Teacher, with a focus on fostering positive behavior.


5. Maintain a classroom environment that is clean, safe, inviting, engaging, and stimulating.


Qualifications

1. Passion for working with young children.

2. Some experience with children aged 0-5 is preferred.

3. Dependable and punctual.

4. Flexible and adaptable.

5. Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
