About the Role

The Medical Records Technician II (Cancer Registry) plays a vital role in the day-to-day operations of the Newfoundland and Labrador Cancer Care Registry. This position is responsible for abstracting and disease registration of all cancers diagnosed in Newfoundland and Labrador, as well as performing cancer staging according to Canadian cancer staging rules and requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Abstracting and disease registration of all cancers diagnosed in Newfoundland and Labrador
  • Performing cancer staging according to Canadian cancer staging rules and requirements
  • Participating in ongoing training and subject matter webinars
  • Analyzing and identifying charts for data quality and chart deficiencies
  • Orientating and training new staff
  • Performing other related duties as required
Requirements
  • Successful completion of a recognized/approved two-year program in Health Records Administration or Health Information Management
  • Current and continuing certification as a Tumour Registrar by the National Cancer Registrars Association
  • Current and continuing certification as a Certified Health Information Management (CHIM) professional with the Canadian College of Health Information Management
  • A minimum of two years of experience within the last four working as a Medical Records Technician I (Cancer Registry)
  • Demonstrated strong organizational, interpersonal and communication skills
  • Demonstrated independence and a strong attention to detail
  • A satisfactory record of work performance
