The Senior Software Solutions Engineer role is pivotal in architecting, developing, and refining software for tailored applications and services. This position demands substantial expertise in Java and other advanced programming languages, along with robust experience in database design and a solid grasp of retail operations. Collaboration with a team of developers on both individual and collective projects is essential. This is a full-time, salaried, exempt position.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, and sustain applications utilizing various programming languages (including Java) and relational databases within a distributed multi-tier and service-oriented architecture.
  • Coordinate development efforts and engage directly with subject matter experts, project stakeholders, and executive leadership.
  • Design, develop, and maintain applications across various programming languages and technologies, including but not limited to:
    • Java 8+ (Spring MVC, Spring Boot, Hibernate/JPA, JUnit, Maven)
    • Oracle (SQL and PL/SQL)
    • PostgreSQL
    • Git (GitHub)
    • HTML, CSS, JavaScript, React
    • Docker Implementations
    • GCP / AWS Services
    • Shell scripting
  • Engage in and conduct code reviews.
  • Contribute to the automated testing suite.
  • Automate software builds, test executions, and deployments.
  • Work to troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve production issues.
  • Communicate project development status, issues, and production challenges to all organizational levels.
  • Participate in evolving the Agile/Scrum-based Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), ensuring it meets the needs of the Development Team while aligning with broader organizational processes and culture.
  • Monitor development activities to ensure data security and compliance with audit standards.
  • Ensure development deliverables undergo adequate testing.
  • Collaborate with the Quality Assurance Team and subject matter experts to guarantee comprehensive testing and address ongoing testing through various levels of automated testing.
  • Attend and participate in development meetings.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding all sensitive company and customer information.
  • Perform additional tasks and duties as requested.
  • Provide technical guidance in streamlining software builds and deployment (CICD) to ensure high code quality and reliability.
  • Consistently arrive on time for the assigned schedule.
  • Offer thought leadership and technical direction in designing and developing reliable, scalable, and secure solutions for retail applications such as eCommerce, Store POS, Order Management, or Supply Chain.
  • Contribute to technology and architecture strategy and roadmap for the Enterprise.
  • Provide thought leadership and technical direction for the development team.

Experience and Skills Required
  • College degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • 10+ years of academic or professional experience in software development.
  • Strong experience in object-oriented design (OOAD), domain-driven design, API, cloud-native, and programming languages such as Java, Python, Ruby, etc.
  • Strong understanding of retail or eCommerce business.
  • Experience with Agile development methodologies (Scrum) is preferred.
  • Object-oriented design and development experience.
  • Ability to work in macOS, Windows, and UNIX/Linux environments.
  • Experience and knowledge in Cloud computing (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
  • Familiarity with SQL (i.e., Oracle, PostgreSQL, MS SQL) and no-SQL (i.e., MongoDB, Cassandra, Couchbase) databases.
  • Familiarity with domain-driven design and API (Swagger).
  • Ability to collaborate with developers and product owners in developing new software applications and enhancements.

  • Ability to work with the team to define test cases, metrics, and resolution guidelines.
  • Ability to identify underlying causes of business issues and recommend appropriate corrective actions or problem resolutions.
