Position Overview

The Environmental Waste Management Coordinator plays a crucial role in ensuring compliance with waste management regulations and policies. This position involves the proper handling and management of various types of waste, including low-level and transuranic waste (TRU) as well as hazardous materials.

Key Responsibilities
  • Interpret and apply waste management regulations to ensure compliant management of facility waste.
  • Collaborate with treatment, storage, disposal entities, generators, and regulatory bodies to address specific waste management issues.
  • Review and update existing procedures to align with regulatory changes and customer requirements.
  • Act as the primary liaison for waste shipments, ensuring all processes meet regulatory standards.
  • Inspect and manage incoming and outgoing shipments to guarantee compliance with applicable regulations.
  • Prepare shipping containers, including the creation of manifests, labeling, and conducting inspections.
  • Coordinate logistics for shipments with generators and disposal sites.
  • Work under general supervision while performing additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Familiarity with state and federal environmental regulations, including WAC, MTCA, RCRA, CERCLA, and TSCA.
  • Strong organizational skills with a disciplined approach to documentation and tracking of waste activities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and other computer applications.
Physical and Mental Requirements
  • Ability to lift and carry items weighing up to 25 pounds and push items weighing up to 200 pounds.
  • Capability to perform tasks requiring manual dexterity.
  • Ability to walk, bend, and stoop as necessary.
  • Effective communication skills, including the ability to meet hearing conservation program requirements.
  • Visual acuity for close and distance vision, including the ability to distinguish basic colors and shades.
  • Flexibility to work in both office and outdoor environments.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively under pressure.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to operate a vehicle.
