Orion Group Holdings is recruiting an experienced Sr. Estimator for our Houston office. This role requires a skilled professional with 8+ years of experience in marine construction and/or heavy civil construction estimating.

Job Description:

As a Sr. Estimator, you will be responsible for preparing accurate and comprehensive estimates, takeoffs, and gathering information required for project proposals. You will work closely with the project team to ensure success in the bid proposal and ward process.

  • You will report to and work closely with the VP of Operations and the Project Management Team to help ensure success in the bid estimation process for marine construction projects.
  • Leads efforts to develop a comprehensive plan and timetable to complete project estimates that may be assigned.
  • Conducts site investigations accompanied by job sponsors.
  • Prepares listings of bid items for review by the Project Management Team.
  • Performs quantity surveys to develop a basis for cost estimates.
  • Contact all material suppliers and subcontractors involved in a given project and solicit quotations on needed bid items.
  • Collections all quotations and enters data into the project management information system regarding quote and survey information.
  • Organizes estimates, quotations, notes, plans, and other pertinent data for final pre-bid review and leads discussion of individual bid items.
  • Assists in the review and analysis of bid documents for items relating to project risk, cost, or company capability.
  • Prepares all bid documents and arranges in worksheet form.
  • Assists in the establishment of proper sequencing of construction, labor requirements, and productivity.
  • Supervises preparation of man-hours and unit production for the various items in the project.
  • Maintains and updates vendor files for various construction materials and subcontractors.
  • Participates in Safety and Environmental initiatives that contribute to compliance of State/Federal regulations and improve existing Company programs.

  • Complies with all applicable laws, regulations, and Company policies and procedures.
  • Reports any violations of applicable laws, regulations, or Company policies and procedures promptly.
  • Perform other related administrative and technical duties as assigned.
Position Requirements:

A minimum of eight (8) years estimating experience in marine/heavy civil construction or a related industry is required. Ideally, the incumbent must have familiarization with Project Estimating, Marine Construction Materials, Procurement, Construction Estimating, including HCSS/HeavyBid, Scheduling (P6), Project Tracking Software, Cost Control, Project Standards, and Safety & Environmental Compliance.

The estimated salary range for this position is between $120,000 - $160,000 per year, depending on experience.
