Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Commissioning Engineer to join our team at PNM Resources. As a Commissioning Engineer, you will be responsible for leading, organizing, and coordinating complex engineering activities associated with the installation and commissioning of substation equipment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide diverse and advanced engineering and technical support and project management expertise associated with large and high-profile projects.
  • Identify and resolve broad technical and/or organizational issues affecting the Company's goals and objectives.
  • Lead awareness of industry changes and identify the potential effects to PNM's commissioning program.
  • Promote awareness and compliance with all relevant corporate policies.
  • Investigate commissioning problems, diagnose and repair errors.
  • Liaise with project engineers, internal commissioning staff, and contractors.
  • Lead reviews of mis-operations or safety incidents, including developing and implementing mitigation actions.
  • Recommend necessary changes in company engineering and construction standards.
  • Provide training to maintenance and operative staff where appropriate.
  • Assist in engineering design reviews.
  • Interpret design and specifications.
  • Create and carry out test procedures.
  • Ensure that newly installed equipment works to its specification.
  • Ensure commissioning and test procedures meet the requirements of ANSI/NETA ATS-2017 and ANSI/NETA ECS 2015.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math from an accredited college or university.
  • Five to seven years of hands-on commissioning experience in an electrical utility, including two years of performing as a lead commissioning specialist.
  • NETA test certification or equivalent is strongly recommended.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts, such as engineering formulas and complex variables.
  • Ability to apply electrical engineering protection and controls concepts to practical situations.
  • In-depth understanding of protection and controls systems and substation equipment functional operation for transmission grid, distribution facilities, distributed generation, and large-scale generation interconnections.
  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of relevant state, federal, industry, and company codes and standards related to construction, installation of, and testing of substation equipment.
Working Environment

This is a mix of office and field work environment, with frequent field visits to station and transmission locations involving equipment installation and testing. You will be working near energized equipment up to 500kV. Travel throughout the state, with occasional travel for attendance at meetings or training sessions out of state.
