Job Overview

Holtec International, a global leader in nuclear energy, is seeking a skilled Mechanical Engineer to join its team. As a Mechanical Engineer, you will play a critical role in designing and analyzing the mechanical and structural components of the SMR-160 small modular reactor.

The successful candidate will have a strong academic background in mechanical or structural engineering and analysis, including experience with finite element analysis. They will be responsible for executing and documenting structural and mechanical design analysis for pressure vessels, supports, mechanical equipment, and structures.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and improve concept designs based on limited requirements or functions.
  • Review and develop mature designs by critical thinking, literature research, and interaction with team members from other disciplines and vendors.
  • Support the preparation of design deliverables, presentations, and communicate design progress in stakeholder meetings.
  • Support development of engineering and licensing requirements and documentation for nuclear systems and components.

Requirements:

  • MS in mechanical engineering, applied mechanics, structural engineering, materials science and engineering, or closely related field of engineering.
  • Strong academic background in mechanical or structural engineering and analysis, including course work applying analysis methods and performing finite element analysis.
  • 0-5 years of experience in the field or in a related area.
  • Effective communication, organizational, interpersonal, and technical writing skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and capable of producing error-free documents.
  • Strong math, analytical, problem-solving, and computer skills.
  • Eligible to work under 10 CFR Part 810.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PhD in mechanical engineering, applied mechanics, structural engineering, materials science and engineering, or closely related field of engineering.
  • Industry experience designing/fabricating of heat exchangers, piping, valves, pumps, and ASME components.
  • Industry experience using FEA simulation to support product development.
  • Experience working with engineers and fabricators to develop designs and drawings.
  • Experience with SolidWorks, AutoCAD, ANSYS, PV Elite, and SmartPlant software suites.
  • Knowledge of ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel Code.
  • Knowledge of U.S. Nuclear Regulations and Guidance from 10 CFR 50; 10 CFR 52; NUREG-0800 Chapters 3, 4, 5, and 6; and nuclear quality assurance.
