Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the current team within the Accounting Department, providing guidance and support to ensure the successful completion of tasks and projects.
  • Plan and oversee month-end close, annual audit, and other financial compliance needs, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Lead the preparation of financial statements, ensuring compliance with financial regulations, accounting standards, and internal controls.
  • Assist in analyzing financial performance metrics, trends, and variance, providing actionable insights and recommendations to drive informed decision-making.
  • Develop and monitor internal controls and process improvement initiatives to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of our financial operations.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with departments to support business initiatives and drive financial performance.
  • Drive the documentation of policies and procedures to ensure consistency and compliance.
  • Manage and develop accounting staff, providing training and guidance to ensure their success.
  • Assist in strategic leadership and direction for the accounting function, including financial planning and analysis, budgeting, forecasting, and reporting.
  • Evaluate, implement, and manage accounting system updates and possible add-on tools to enhance our financial management capabilities.
  • Contribute to business initiatives, investment opportunities, and cost-saving strategies to optimize Agate's financial stability.
  • Protect the organization's value by maintaining confidentiality of sensitive materials and information.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry developments and best practices by participating in education opportunities.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting required.
  • A minimum of five to seven (5-7) years of accounting experience.
  • Experience managing and developing staff.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles (GAAP, non-profit, etc.), financial reporting (including 990), and budgeting processes.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving skills, self-motivated, and detail-oriented.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, work independently, and meet deadlines.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficient using accounting software and MS Office tools.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive materials and information.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • CPA certificate and license.
  • Accounting or Finance experience in a non-profit setting, particularly around Grants and Contracts.
  • Federal (Single) Audit experience.
  • Two or three (2-3) years experience managing and developing staff.
  • Knowledge of, or experience with Sage Intacct.
