Job Summary

The Service Field Technician Master is a lead worker overseeing two or more lower-level Service Technicians. This role provides technical assistance in diagnosis and repair of heavy equipment, working closely with lower-level technicians. The Service Field Technician Master schedules work, monitors quality control for work performed, and customer relations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Diagnose, service, and repair various systems found on heavy equipment, including mechanical and computer electronic controls, transmissions, computer-controlled automatic transmissions, and pneumatic systems.
  • Troubleshoot malfunctions in equipment and repair.
  • Repair and service track drive sprockets, rails, idler wheels, hand bars, track adjusters, hydraulic, reversers, final drives, brake bands, steering clutches, and hydrostatic transmissions.
  • Service, diagnose, repair, and maintain speed tandem drive axles with air or electric shift, hydrostatic-driven, heavy-duty multi-axle suspensions.
  • Tune gas and diesel engines, service valves, fuel filters, and turbochargers, and pressure check fuel filters, adjust injector heights, fuel racks, governors, etc.
  • Diagnose problems, disassemble units, repair or replace parts, and reassemble units in the cooling, drive, brake, electrical, steering, heating, and air conditioning, hydraulic, and air systems.
  • Overhaul engines, replace engines, and rebuild components.
  • Must be able to identify, perform, and troubleshoot malfunctions in equipment and repair at an advanced level.
  • Complete and turn in all documentation necessary to finalize the work performed without supervision.
  • Ensure that all field jobs are completed in a proficient and safe manner.
  • Seek continuous technical training to stay informed of the continuous changes in various models of equipment.
  • Assist in training lower-level workers in mechanical repair techniques.
  • Promote good welfare among the company and its divisions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Must have a minimum of 5 years of experience in the construction and mining machinery industry.
  • GED or High School Diploma, applied certification(s) for job description preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Must have a working knowledge of the above title's position and how it relates to the overall business and its objectives.
  • Must have the ability to supervise and motivate others.
  • Must have the ability to effectively operate diagnostic tools, shop equipment, and have advanced troubleshooting skills.
  • Must have advanced electrical skills.
  • Must meet goals and objectives set forth by the company.
  • Must conform to policies and procedures set forth by the company.
  • Must have a current driver's license and acceptable driving record per WPI Insurance carrier standards if driving a company vehicle.
  • Must be able to pass and maintain drug and alcohol testing requirements as outlined by the Department of Transportation.
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to bend and twist several times a day.
  • Must have the ability to work flexible hours and days.
  • Must be proficient in Windows System (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and Outlook).
  • Must be dependable and work independently.
  • Must maintain good client relations.
  • Must maintain a professional appearance.
  • Must promote and maintain a clean, neat, and safe environment.
  • Must have the ability to travel and stay overnight.
  • Must abide by customer's safety rules and regulations on customer's site.
  • Must protect the company assets and interest.
