SALARY: $37,600 annually
POSITION SUMMARY: This role is dedicated to the upkeep of roadways and bridges, ensuring effective drainage and maintenance of right-of-way areas for Rockwall County. Responsibilities include asphalt application, street sign management, tree trimming, mowing, drainage maintenance, erosion control, and transporting road materials, among other essential tasks.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Manage daily work orders; repair and install street signs, including bases and poles as necessary; deploy warning signs for roadwork.
- Conduct pothole repairs; shovel and distribute various materials.
- Utilize chainsaws for tree limb trimming.
- Transport materials to job sites and county facilities.
- Perform basic maintenance on roadways.
- Engage in traffic control; maintain visual and radio communication with team members and the public; implement lane closures as required.
- Execute tasks at County Maintenance facilities, including cleaning, repairing, and organizing signage; constructing barricades, welding, and performing machine work.
- Operate backhoes and loaders for material loading and execute culvert replacements, ditch cleanouts, and tree removals.
- Maintain and repair tires on all equipment; perform minor repairs and cleaning on machinery.
- Ensure cleanliness of work areas, including offices and restrooms.
- Sand roads during adverse weather conditions; utilize street sweepers for cleaning.
- Fulfill additional duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY AND BUDGETARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position does not entail supervisory or budgetary responsibilities.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Proficient in operating heavy machinery and possessing a Class A Commercial Driver's License.
- Familiarity with various equipment including chainsaws, dump trucks, sweepers, backhoes, rollers, compactors, and hand tools.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to make informed decisions following established policies and procedures.
- Capability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks efficiently.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Possession of a Class A Commercial Texas Driver's License.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
This position involves both indoor and outdoor work, with exposure to varying temperatures and seasonal weather changes. Occasional exposure to noise, vibration, and physical hazards is expected. Health and safety risks are minimal, and the use of safety gear such as glasses, steel-toed boots, gloves, and ear protection is recommended. Frequent physical activities include lifting, carrying, reaching, standing, sitting, walking, pushing, pulling, climbing, balancing, bending, crouching, hearing, twisting, and talking.
EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS:
- Successful completion of a pre-employment drug screening is required.
- A background investigation must be successfully completed.
