Job Summary

This is a challenging opportunity to work in a dynamic environment as a Road Maintenance Operator for Rockwall County, Texas. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining county roads and ensuring the safe passage of traffic.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate heavy equipment such as bulldozers, graders, asphalt paving equipment, and backhoes to maintain county roads.
  • Haul road materials for activities such as patching roads and installing culverts.
  • Repair street signs, install street sign bases, and put out warning signs for roadwork.
  • Cut or trim tree limbs using chainsaws.
  • Remove debris from roadways, including concrete, rocks, tree limbs, and trash.
  • Perform welding, fabricating, and mechanic work, as well as building maintenance tasks such as sweeping, cleaning, and repairs.
  • Conduct traffic flagging and maintain consistent visual and radio communications with other employees, operators, and traveling citizens.
  • Service trucks and equipment, and maintain the cleanliness of the work area, office, and bathroom.

Requirements

  • Class A Commercial Texas Driver's License.
  • Ability to operate heavy equipment and obtain a Class A Commercial Driver's License.
  • Knowledge of operating all equipment, including chainsaws, dump trucks, sweepers, backhoes, rollers, steel wheels, compactors, air tools, hand tools, shovels, racks, weed eaters, and mowers.
  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to make decisions in accordance with policies and procedures.
  • Ability to prioritize and complete multiple projects.

Working Conditions

This position works both in a shop and outside, with daily exposure to varying temperature ranges and seasonal fluctuations in weather conditions. The position also involves occasional exposure to noise, vibration, and physical hazards. Safety glasses, steel toe boots, gloves, and earplugs are recommended.

The position requires frequent lifting, carrying, reaching, standing, sitting, walking, pushing, pulling, climbing, foot controls, balancing, bending, crouching, hearing, twisting, and talking.

Conditions of Employment

  • Must successfully complete a pre-employment drug screen.
  • Must successfully complete a background investigation.
