Job Summary

As a Pharmacy Manager at Walgreens, you will be responsible for leading a team of pharmacists and technicians to provide exceptional patient care and services. This role requires a strong understanding of pharmacy operations, business acumen, and leadership skills to drive business growth and improve patient outcomes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Patient Experience
    • Engage patients by providing personalized service and ensuring a positive experience.
    • Model and share customer service best practices with team members to deliver a distinctive and joyful patient experience.
    • Connect with patients by anticipating their needs and proactively offering services.
    • Participate in events that reflect the unique communities we serve.
  • Operations
    • Counsel patients and answer questions regarding medication usage, side effects, interactions, and contraindications.
    • Perform pharmacist tasks, including compounding, drug therapy reviews, verification, and medication management.
    • Review, interpret, and accurately dispense prescribed medications.
    • Ensure the pharmacy operates in accordance with regulations, company policies, and standards.
    • Establish procedures that promote efficient workflow and staff scheduling.
    • Collaborate with Store Manager to define and develop new strategic business opportunities.
    • Maintain information technology knowledge of pharmacy systems and support staff and patients with IT-related issues.
    • Ensure insurance claims are processed accurately and resolve patient issues with insurance companies and medical providers.
    • Follow-up with medical providers to clarify prescribed medications, dosages, refills, interactions, and allergies.
    • Perform clinical and wellness services, such as immunizations, diagnostic testing, and disease state management.
    • Partner with centralized support for patient registration, exception resolution, and resolving patient issues.
    • Manage the maintenance, housekeeping, and improvement of the pharmacy department.
    • Prepare and submit records, reports, and other documentation as required by state and federal laws.
  • People & Performance Management
    • Collaborate with Store Manager on pharmacy staff hiring, discipline, and termination.
    • Partner with Store Manager to establish expectations and goals, promote teamwork, and foster a shared vision.
    • Monitor and recognize improvements in pharmacy staff performance.
    • Identify high-potential team members and collaborate with Store Manager to manage career progression.
    • Address employee relations concerns and maintain team member morale.
  • Training & Personal Development
    • Maintain required licensing, credentialing, and certification to provide clinical services.
    • Maintain and enhance current knowledge and skills related to pharmacy and healthcare.
    • Complete education credits and training as required by the Company.
    • Seek professional development by monitoring own performance, soliciting feedback, and leveraging Healthcare Supervisor and Store Manager as mentors and coaches.
  • Communications
    • Support the Store Manager by communicating relevant corporate health and wellness services or strategy information to pharmacy staff.
  • Business Performance Management
    • Analyze performance data, including pharmacy financials, customer service, and inventory.
    • Manage pharmacy asset protection activities and oversee inventory management.
    • Identify pharmacy performance trends and opportunities for improvement.
  • Business Planning
    • Develop and maintain good relationships with local medical community, including physicians, nurses, and other healthcare providers.
    • Reach out to the community to promote the pharmacy business and further enhance growth opportunities.
    • Support Store Manager in expanding health and wellness awareness in the community.
