Job Summary

The Paralegal will assist the VP – Legal by assigning accounts to outside counsel, monitoring and reporting on the status, and strategizing and managing the process to maximize recoveries.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Prepare packages for placement with outside counsel, ensuring all necessary documents are included.
  • Manage outside attorneys' progress and strategy for maximizing recoveries, providing regular updates to the VP – Legal.
  • Research and analyze statutes, regulations, legal articles, judicial decisions, and other legal sources to stay up-to-date on industry developments.
  • Provide reporting for status on accounts, including any issues or concerns that may impact recoveries.
  • Communicate with customers to negotiate workouts and settlements, ensuring all parties are aware of the process and timeline.
  • Respond to subpoenas and other legal documents in a timely and professional manner.
Required Skills and Abilities
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong understanding of legal language and principles, research methods, court pleadings and processes, and other related matters.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with customers and colleagues.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines, with a strong focus on delivering high-quality results.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software, with the ability to learn new systems and technologies quickly.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Paralegal Studies or related field preferred, with a paralegal certificate or equivalent experience.
  • Some related commercial lending and bankruptcy knowledge preferred, with a strong understanding of industry developments and trends.
