General Atomics and Affiliated Companies is seeking a highly skilled Electrical Systems Technician to join our Inertial Fusion Technology Team. This individual will play a critical role in maintaining and improving complex deposition Coater systems at our Inertial Fusion Technology Facility in La Jolla, CA.

The successful candidate will be responsible for performing standard electrical or mechanical technician duties, including operation, repair, and maintenance of diagnostics used at our Deposition Coaters. They will work with engineering and other technical staff to assist in development, fabrication, and installation of new R&D hardware and operations systems for IFT.

The ideal candidate will have a strong knowledge of Solid Works and PLC ladder logic, as well as experience with basic electronic equipment, meters, and oscilloscopes. They will also be able to work with mechanical systems and common hand tools, and operate laboratory equipment.

This position requires the ability to work in a team-oriented environment, with a focus on supporting key operations that contribute to the success of our organization. The successful candidate will be able to obtain a security clearance and work alternate shifts as needed.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform standard electrical or mechanical technician duties, including operation, repair, and maintenance of diagnostics used at our Deposition Coaters.
  • Work with engineering and other technical staff to assist in development, fabrication, and installation of new R&D hardware and operations systems for IFT.
  • Support testing, calibration, documentation, and data collection as well as diagnosis of equipment problems.
  • Use schematics to perform real-time troubleshooting of electronics methodically and efficiently.
  • Work with engineers to review and develop work procedures.
  • Provide technician support to other IFT systems.
  • Responsible to learn and follow all applicable safety procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Typically requires associate's degree or equivalent with nine or more years of experience. May substitute equivalent experience in lieu of education.
  • Familiarity with basic electronic equipment, meters, and oscilloscopes, the ability to work with mechanical systems and common hand tools, and operate laboratory equipment.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of Solid Works and PLC ladder logic.
  • Understanding of schematic diagrams and basic troubleshooting methods.
  • Ability to use basic office computer applications and graphical user interface applications.
  • Good manual dexterity working with precision assembly of fairly small parts is desirable.
  • Hours must be somewhat flexible and may include evening shifts.
  • This position involves the installation and occasional relocation of equipment. The incumbent must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability and willingness to work around unusual conditions, such as high voltage, cryogens, and confined spaces.
  • Must be team oriented, willing to assist others to reach our operational goals.
  • Must be able to obtain a security clearance, and willing to work alternate shifts as needed.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q clearance.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Experience with High Voltage power systems support.
  • Power electronics experience.
  • Experience with vacuum system, water cooling systems, and soldering is a plus.
  • Experience with machine shop tools (drill presses, saws, mills, lathes, etc.) is a plus.
  • Experience working in groups or teams.
