Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Public Health Nurse II to join our team at the Texas Department of Aging & Disability Services. As a key member of our HIV/STD Program, you will play a critical role in providing comprehensive nursing services to individuals, families, and communities in rural areas of Public Health Region 9/10.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide direct client care and case management services, including assessment, testing, treatment, education, and counseling for individuals with sexually transmitted diseases.
  • Develop and deliver HIV/STD training programs and presentations to meet the needs of the department and other service providers.
  • Build and maintain collaborative relationships with local health departments, infection preventionists, physicians, laboratories, and other healthcare providers.
  • Participate in disease control and prevention, community education, quality assurance, and program administration activities.
  • Assist with the occupational care of staff, including annual testing and vaccinations.
Requirements:
  • Knowledge of nursing theory and processes, Texas State Board of Nursing practice rules and regulations, and public health principles and practice.
  • Ability to provide direct client care, train, coach, and mentor others, and work independently and exercise sound judgment.
  • Strong communication and public speaking skills, with the ability to use a personal computer and basic applications such as Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Power Point.
Working Conditions:

This position requires the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, with frequent travel to rural areas and the ability to wear an N-95 respirator. The successful candidate must be able to meet the physical demands of the job functions and maintain a safe and healthy work environment.
