Job Summary:

The Assurance Experienced Manager is responsible for overseeing and directing audit engagements, ensuring the delivery of high-quality services to clients. This role involves supervising, directing, and reviewing the results of audit engagements, as well as marketing and business development within a specific area of expertise.

Key Responsibilities:

Control Environment:

  • Apply knowledge and understanding of the collective effect of various factors on establishing or enhancing the effectiveness of specific policies and procedures.
  • Validate and assess the effectiveness of internal control over financial reporting.
  • Identify and communicate suggestions to improve client internal controls and accounting procedures.
  • Supervise the work of audit teams and review workpapers and conclusions.

GAAP:

  • Apply knowledge and understanding of governing principles and document and communicate an understanding and application of these principles.
  • Identify and consult with clients on the impact of new accounting pronouncements.
  • Monitor and communicate important professional and industry pronouncements.
  • Draft complex financial statements and related footnote disclosures.

SEC and PCAOB:

  • Apply knowledge and understanding of SEC regulations and PCAOB guidelines and document and communicate the application of these principles.
  • Review SEC filings, including MD&A, financial statements, and disclosures for appropriateness in form, content, completeness, and accuracy.
  • Ensure compliance with engagement independence requirements.

GAAS:

  • Apply knowledge and understanding of professional standards and document and communicate an understanding and application of professional standards on an engagement.
  • Provide guidance to others and affirm conclusions made by others.
  • Communicate matters required to be reported to the Audit Committee/Board and those charged with governance.

Methodology:

  • Apply knowledge and application of BDO standards that guide effective and efficient delivery of quality services and products.
  • Conduct detailed review to assure audit is completed in accordance with assurance manual standards.
  • Prepare or review required communications to management and audit committees.

Research:

  • Apply methodology used to seek or maintain information from authoritative sources and to draw conclusions regarding a target issue based on that information.
  • Define methodology to conduct research projects and complete in a timely manner.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for supervision of Associates and Senior Associates on all projects.
  • Review work prepared by Associates and Senior Associates and provide review comments.
  • Act as a Career Advisor to Associates and Senior Associates.
  • Schedule and manage workload of Associates and Senior Associates.

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree, required; major in Accounting, Finance, Economics or Statistics, preferred.
  • Master's in Accountancy, preferred.

Experience:

  • Six (6) or more years of prior relevant audit experience and/or public accounting, private industry accounting or consulting/professional services experience, required.
  • Prior significant supervisory experience, required.
  • Industry expertise in one or more assurance specialty, preferred.

License/Certifications:

  • Active licensed US CPA, recognized active International Equivalent or unique qualification as defined by BDO's Assurance Licensing Policy, required.

Software:

  • Proficient with the Microsoft Office Suite, preferred.
  • Experience with assurance applications and research tools, preferred.

Language:

  • N/A

Other Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Solid GAAP and GAAS knowledge.
  • Familiarity with SEC and PCAOB reporting rules.
  • Proven solid verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent people development and delegation skills.
  • Executive presence.
  • Client development/relationship-building skills.
  • Solid decision-making skills.
  • Ability to resolve complex accounting issues.
  • Ability to be responsible for business development and marketing.
  • Ability to be responsible for engagement profitability including billings and collections.

Individual salaries that are offered to a candidate are determined after consideration of numerous factors including but not limited to the candidate's qualifications, experience, skills, and geography.

California Range: $140,000 - $145,000
Colorado Range: $100,000 - $120,000
New York City/ Valhalla Range: $105,000 - $150,000
Washington Range: $104,000 - $127,000
