Overview
Under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist, this role is responsible for the preparation, packaging, distribution, billing, and inventory management of medications.
Key Responsibilities
- Engages in effective communication with pharmacists, nursing staff, patients, physicians, and other healthcare personnel. Addresses all issues within the technician's scope of responsibilities and escalates any matters beyond this scope to the pharmacist.
- Assists pharmacy staff by managing the fill list and preparing patient medication cassettes. Responsible for the delivery and exchange of cassettes, restocking medication trays, and returning discharge medications to stock. Maintains cleanliness and organization within the pharmacy, restocking unit dose pick bins in the dispensing area. Generates IV labels, prepares IV solutions, and ensures timely delivery. Processes billing charges and enters them into the system, files billing documents, and retrieves discharge information. Inputs patient orders into the computer system and manages departmental orders. Monitors stock levels and places orders as necessary. Prints and distributes Medication Administration Records (MARs) and enters charges from fill lists and narcotic sheets. Handles phone inquiries and requests at the pharmacy entrance.
- Facilitates the training of new pharmacy technicians, ensuring they achieve proficiency in all technician duties within a 4 to 6-week timeframe.

- Maintains a record of no more than two documented complaints related to policy or professional conduct since the last evaluation.

- Completes annual safety training within the required timeframes.

Qualifications
- Minimum Education: High school diploma and completion of a pharmacy technician training program.
- Minimum Experience: 2 years of experience in an acute care setting.
- Required Certification/Registration: Pharmacy technician certification from the California Board of Pharmacy, Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
