As a Network Infrastructure Specialist at RAND in Santa Monica, California, you will have the opportunity to work as an integral part of the Network Engineering team. Your key responsibilities will include engineering networks and infrastructure services in classified DoD and non-classified environments.

You will provide strategic technical expertise and leadership in anticipating and recommending emerging technologies and testing designs for introduction into the corporate environment, including the use of Cloud-based technology. This role requires both expert-level knowledge in your area of expertise and a breadth of experience and skill sets to develop comprehensive solutions and process improvements.

You will work independently as well as collaborate and engage other subject matter experts in developing solutions and resolving problems. Assessing technical concepts, determining their applicability to the corporate environment, testing, and implementing technologies, and passing them on to technical users are all essential aspects of this role.

  • Provide expertise (SME) in day-to-day work for data, voice, and LAN/WAN and AV environments.
  • Lead small-to-medium projects and technology implementations, network engineering, and design tactical solutions as assigned.
  • Assist technical staff, including diagnosing and troubleshooting systems networking, hardware, and software problems. Act as an initial escalation resource for problem resolution, solving most issues of technical problems in the field of expertise.
  • Verify the integrity of data, voice, and LAN/WAN networks. Identify problems, determine solutions, and ensure implementation. Work with other functional IS groups in the evaluation, customization, adaptation, and implementation of hardware and software application systems.
  • Evaluate and recommend new or enhanced network hardware and software systems/technologies and network designs for maximum functionality, security, and minimal cost based on user or company needs.
  • Analyze capacity requirements and initiate, change, or move various data, voice, and LAN/WAN/WLAN networks and systems based on business needs. Act as a resource and provide training and expertise and mentoring to various functional departments and individuals in relation to network voice or data applications and systems.
  • Stay current with new technology development and examine opportunities to apply new technology advancements where appropriate. Stay current through online resources, maintaining professional relationships with relevant colleagues, and attending occasional technology conferences.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education:

  • A High School Diploma or GED is required.
  • A BS degree in computer science or engineering is preferred.

Certifications:

  • A Current Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) is required; Cisco Certified Design Professional (CCDP) or Cisco Certified Architect (CCA) is preferred.
  • Security + or Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) certifications are desired.

Experience:

  • 5+ years of experience working in a role planning, designing, implementing, administering, and troubleshooting LAN/WAN/WLAN environments.
  • A team player with experience leading technical projects and solving problems in a matrix environment is desired.
  • Familiarity with any technology that aligns with future operations strategy is a plus; Microsoft M365, AWS/Azure cloud, DoD Classified Environments, SD-WAN, IaaS/PaaS, datacenter to cloud transition, Cisco DNA, Cisco Wireless Cisco Nexus', Cisco routers, Cisco ISE as well as BGP and OSPF.

Salary Range: $88,000 - $130,900

RAND considers a variety of factors when formulating an offer, including but not limited to, the specific role and associated responsibilities; a candidate's work experience, education/training, skills, expertise; and internal equity. Successful candidates will be offered employment in a specific title, as determined by the candidate's education and experience. The salary range includes base pay plus RAND's sabbatic pay (which provides additional compensation above base pay when vacation is taken).
