Job Description

At Sterling Engineering Inc., we are seeking a skilled Maintenance Technician to join our team. This role is responsible for performing a wide range of duties to install, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain production and facility equipment. The successful candidate will ensure the safe and efficient operation of equipment, while upholding Food Safety and Quality Standards.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Ensure products meet company standards and specifications.
  • Complete accurate and legible documentation.
  • Follow all company Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and maintain Food Safety and Quality Standards daily.
  • Comply with company Allergen, Food Defense, and HACCP policies.
  • Communicate any Food Safety or equipment concerns with supervision.
  • Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for assigned areas.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with colleagues.
  • Avoid abuse of equipment; work with supervision and maintenance to ensure equipment is in optimal working condition.
  • Work in a fast-paced environment and comply with safety policies, using Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as needed.
  • Correctly weigh and record any waste for disposal.
  • Maintain a clean work area and ensure proper care of machinery.
  • Respond to radio calls immediately, prioritizing tasks with supervisor or manager input.
  • Maintain regular, predictable attendance.
Technical Skills:
  • Create notifications and log time on work orders in the CMMS.
  • Provide feedback to update procedures and identify deficiencies noted in SAP.
  • Semi-skilled in mechanical, electrical, and plumbing work.
  • Semi-skilled in troubleshooting processing and packing equipment.
  • Basic understanding of PLCs and VFDs, with diagnostic skills.
  • Semi-skilled in ARC, MIG, and TIG welding.
  • Experience in fabricating parts and operating shop equipment (mill, lathe, brake, press).
  • Knowledge of 5S, Lean manufacturing, and formalized problem-solving techniques.
  • At least 3-7 years of progressive experience troubleshooting, repairing, and conducting preventative maintenance in high-volume, high-automation manufacturing environments.
  • Advanced knowledge of electrical systems (including PLC and A/C drives), as well as hydraulic and mechanical systems.
  • Ability to work overtime as needed to support departmental or production needs.
Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Experience in general maintenance, including the ability to identify and troubleshoot electrical, plumbing, and mechanical issues or equipment failures.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Formal training in mechanical, electrical, and/or plumbing techniques.
  • Experience in the food industry.
