Position Overview for RN - Med Surg Ortho Nights

The RN provides direct nursing care in alignment with the established protocols and policies of the healthcare organization.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

- Develops and oversees patient care plans, ensuring thorough monitoring and documentation of patient conditions.
- Acts as the primary coordinator for multidisciplinary teams to ensure seamless patient care.
- Executes physician and nursing orders effectively.
- Evaluates and organizes discharge planning needs in collaboration with the healthcare team.

Assessment - The RN employs a systematic approach to gather and analyze comprehensive data about patients, which is essential for delivering effective nursing care. This assessment encompasses physiological, psychological, sociocultural, spiritual, economic, and lifestyle factors.

- Conducts initial assessments
- Performs re-assessments
- Executes focused assessments based on patient needs and settings

Problem Identification - The nurse utilizes clinical judgment to identify actual or potential health conditions or needs of the patient.

Planning and Outcomes - Following assessment and problem identification, the nurse collaborates with patients and families to establish measurable and achievable goals. This information is documented in the patient's care plan for accessibility by all healthcare professionals involved in the patient's care.

- Sets daily goals with patients and families
- Develops a comprehensive care plan
- Coordinates transition or discharge planning

Implementation - Nursing care is delivered according to the care plan, ensuring continuity during hospitalization and preparing for discharge. All care is documented in the patient's medical record.

- Ensures patient safety
- Administers medications
- Provides ordered treatments
- Educates patients and families
- Delivers nursing care
- Documents care in healthcare records

Evaluation - Continuous evaluation of both the patient's status and the effectiveness of nursing care is essential, with modifications made to the care plan as necessary.

Care Coordination - Actions initiated by nurses to manage and enhance the sequence, timing, and effectiveness of patient care from admission through discharge.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR RN - MED SURG ORTHO NIGHTS

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRATION
License Required: Valid current Arizona Nursing License or compact state license with the ability to obtain Arizona licensure within 30 days.
Certification Required: Basic Life Support (BLS) - American Heart Association and other certifications as required by the department.
Certification Preferred: Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) - American Heart Association, Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP), or other certifications as required by the department.

EDUCATION
Required: Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing. Continuing education as defined within the CARE program.
Preferred: Bachelor of Science in Nursing.

WORK EXPERIENCE
Required: Minimum of one (1) year of experience as a Registered Nurse.
