The State of South Dakota is seeking a highly skilled Medical Laboratory Technician to join our Public Health Laboratory team. As a Medical Laboratory Technician, you will play a critical role in providing medical microbiology testing services to clients throughout the state.
Key Responsibilities- Perform diagnostic testing in a high-complexity environment, including bacteriology, molecular, mycology, mycobacteriology, serology, virology, and special pathogens testing.
- Work closely with a team of scientists to provide clinical and public health microbiology testing services.
- Conduct data analysis and reporting, and maintain accurate records.
- Develop and implement quality assurance and quality control procedures to ensure accurate and reliable test results.
- Collaborate with healthcare professionals and other stakeholders to provide excellent customer service and support.
- MLT(ASCP) certification or equivalent is desired.
- Associate's degree in laboratory science or medical laboratory technology per 42 CFR.
- Minimum of an Associate's degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or a Bachelor's degree in Microbiology.
- Previous microbiology testing experience is preferred, but recent graduates will be considered.
- Training and/or experience in high complexity testing.
- Knowledge of CLIA regulations and the ability to follow laboratory policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of clinical and public health microbiology, laboratory biosafety, quality management, and CLIA regulations.
- Ability to safely perform clinical and public health microbiology testing in accordance with laboratory policies and procedures.
- Ability to maintain a clean and organized testing environment.
- Ability to interact collaboratively with the SDPHL medical microbiology team, epidemiology staff, and other healthcare professionals.
- Ability to operate high complexity instruments, including maintenance checks as required.
- Ability to contribute to test validation and implementation.
- Ability to contribute to client outreach and education.
- Ability to participate in on-site and off-site training relevant to day-to-day duties.
