About the Position:

LADGOV CORPORATION is seeking a highly skilled Collections Management Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our collections management team, you will be responsible for supporting the Curator in the evaluation and acquisition of three-dimensional historical artifacts.

Job Summary:

The Collections Management Specialist will conduct research on potential objects, present information to the collections committee, and document and catalog artifacts following the NHVACM collections management plan. You will also observe provenance, consult with the curator, and prepare recommendations for large-scale movements and updates to spreadsheets or a collections management system.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Physical Maintenance of Artifacts: Process and handle incoming artifacts, documenting shipment, arrival condition, immediate requirements, and longer concerns, adding all arrivals to the database.
  • Planning and Arranging Storage Space: Inventory and prepare a recommendations report for large-scale movements, updating locations in spreadsheets or a collections management system.
  • Handling Incoming Artifacts: Support reference activity by responding to inquiries, performing database searches, and providing extensive reference services periodically.
  • Maintaining Collection Records: Create reports on collections management efforts using the collections management system and provide technical assistance to other VA employees.
  • Quality Assurance: Maintain a log of reference requests detailing method of contact and statistics on database activity.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in history, museum studies, or related field from an accredited institution; master's degree in museum studies strongly preferred.
  • At least three years of experience in the management of museum collections, including one year of experience accessioning, cataloging, and rehousing of three-dimensional objects.

Compensation: The estimated salary for this position is $60,000 - $80,000 per annum, depending on qualifications and experience. LADGOV CORPORATION offers a competitive benefits package, including health insurance, retirement savings plan, and paid time off.
