Job Summary

The Respiratory Therapy Assistant plays a vital role in supporting the Respiratory Therapy department in various areas, including equipment delivery, maintenance, and service, as well as laboratory testing and analysis. This position requires excellent communication skills to collaborate with coworkers, physicians, and nurses to ensure quality patient care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in laboratory testing and analysis, including whole blood gas analysis of arterial, capillary, venous, cord, and pleural fluid samples.
  • Perform daily maintenance on blood gas analyzers.
  • Conduct quality control, calibrations, and troubleshooting on laboratory equipment.
  • Review laboratory request forms for complete demographic and order entry information and resolve discrepancies as needed.
  • Practice consistent excellence and maintain all CAP competencies within the lab in a timely manner.
Equipment Management
  • Distribute respiratory supplies.
  • Process, clean, and disinfect soiled medical equipment.
  • Test and assemble various life-support, diagnostic, monitoring, and therapy equipment.
  • Clean all equipment rooms.
  • Set up ventilators after training.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Maintain awareness of patient safety issues within the clinic and in the use of equipment.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality according to HFHS HIPAA policies.
  • Follow all HFHS System and Departmental Policies and Procedures and perform all tasks assigned by HFH Departmental leadership.
  • Assist in training employees, attend and participate in continuing education and inservices.
  • Work with pressurized piped-in and bottled medical gases.
  • Lift, move, and use equipment, taking necessary precautions to avoid personal, patient, and/or equipment malfunction.
  • Work in a fast-paced environment, standing for long hours, and moving heavy equipment across the Hospital.
Requirements
  • High School diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.
  • Life experience related to customer service, high volume/fast-paced environment, laboratory, and/or logistics preferred.
Certifications/Licenses Required

Must meet or exceed core customer service responsibilities, standards, and behaviors as outlined in the HFHS' Customer Service Policy.

Physical Demands/Working Conditions

Normal office environment with minimal exposure to noise, dust, or extreme temperatures.
