Lead Patient Care Technician

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Lead Patient Care Technician to join our team at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will play a vital role in delivering exceptional patient care and supporting the well-being of our patients and their families.
Key Responsibilities- Provide high-quality patient care by performing delegated tasks related to common nursing functions and activities of daily living.
- Lead a team of Patient Care Technicians in providing patient-centered care and promoting a positive and supportive work environment.
- Assist patients with activities of daily living, including bathing, dressing, and grooming.
- Document patient observations and report them to licensed staff in a timely and accurate manner.
- Transport patients, supplies, and equipment within the facility while maintaining a safe and efficient environment.
- Contribute to Carilion Clinic's performance improvement activities and participate in unit quality surveillance.
- Lead unit huddles, participate in IDR's (unit-based interdepartmental patient rounds), and provide support for department/unit staff scheduling.
- Order and stock department/unit supplies and equipment, and assist with customer service in wayfinding, answering phones, and making meaningful connections with patients and visitors.
- Process equipment between patients, operate and maintain general office equipment, and follow procedures for timely equipment repairs.
- Lead streamlined, timely, and comprehensive admission, transfer, and discharge processes, keeping the patient experience as the top focus.
- Assist in coordination of patient flow into/out of the area using department/unit-specific software and Intranet.
- Welcomes and assists patients and visitors, serves as the face of the unit, and role-models service excellence behaviors at all times.
- Receives and screens incoming calls via telephone and patient call system, routes calls to appropriate individuals, and takes messages accurately.
- Monitors cleanliness of the unit waiting and break rooms, and performs safety/environmental rounds on the unit and with multidisciplinary team members.
- Assists with maintaining regulatory compliance, including refrigerator, glucose meters, equipment room storage, and assisting with code cart checks as assigned.
- May be responsible for phlebotomy, nonsterile wound care dressings, replacing and removing saline locks, and colostomy bag changes, as competency allows.
- Assists with ongoing training and precepting of new and current employees, meets with new hire PCTS for orientation planning, and engages in evidenced-based practices that enhance the patient experience.
- High school diploma or equivalent education required.
- Previous experience in direct patient care preferred.
- Certified Nursing Assistant preferred, with AHA BLS-HCP required within 6 months of hire.
- Effective interpersonal, communication, and teamwork skills required.
