The Clinical Surgery Faculty will contribute to the objectives of the Division and Department of Surgery. This role encompasses the comprehensive care of patients throughout the preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative phases, as well as performing advanced surgical procedures, including both open and laparoscopic techniques. The faculty member will be tasked with establishing a robust clinical and academic practice in general surgery. In addition, this position involves mentoring surgical residents, fellows, and medical students. The role will include direct patient care, as well as engagement in support services such as rehabilitation, nutrition, psychological assistance, and preventive care within the general surgical services at the University of Miami Hospital and its affiliated institutions. Attendance and oversight of outpatient clinics and offices will be necessary, along with providing coverage for on-call responsibilities.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Responsibilities include participation in clinical and educational initiatives pertinent to the Division and Department of Surgery, with a focus on the following:
- Delivering comprehensive pre-, post-, and intraoperative patient care.
- Executing advanced open and laparoscopic surgical procedures.
- Developing a clinical and academic practice in general surgery.
- Engaging in the education of surgical residents, fellows, and medical students.
- Providing direct patient care and participating in support services, including rehabilitation, nutrition, psychological support, and preventive programs.
- Attending and supervising outpatient clinics and offices.
- Offering attending coverage for on-call schedules.
Possessing specialized knowledge and experience in the diagnosis, management, and postoperative care of surgical patients, including handling complications across the following essential surgical domains:
- Alimentary tract
- Abdomen and its contents
- Breast, skin, and soft tissue
- Head and neck, including trauma, vascular, endocrine, congenital, and oncologic disorders
- Vascular system, excluding intracranial vessels and heart
- Endocrine system, including thyroid, parathyroid, adrenal, and endocrine pancreas
- Surgical oncology, focusing on coordinated multimodal management of cancer patients
- Comprehensive trauma management, including musculoskeletal, hand, and head injuries
- Critical care management of patients with surgical conditions in emergency, intensive care, and trauma/burn units

- Medical Degree from an accredited institution.
- Completion of a one-year fellowship in a surgical specialty.
- Eligibility for Florida Medical License and DEA License.
- Board eligibility or certification in General Surgery.
- A minimum of 3-5 years of experience in open and laparoscopic surgery.
- Familiarity with standard practices and procedures within the field of general surgery.
