The Mental Health Professional is a key member of our multi-disciplinary treatment team, providing clinically appropriate services under the clinical direction of the Associate Director, Mental Health Programs.
Responsibilities- Provide mental health screenings and assessments, clinical watches, treatment groups, and individual sessions.
- Perform individual and group therapeutic counseling.
- Conduct administrative consultations for specialized social services as determined by the specific needs of the Institution.
- Interview inmates to obtain information concerning medical history, mental health history, or other pertinent information.
- Observe inmates to detect indications of abnormal behavior.
- Review results of tests, treatment plans, and treatment cases with the behavioral health team to evaluate client needs and implement treatment.
- Coordinate psychiatry services, including tracking and triaging patients' requests or staff referrals for psychotropic meds, administrative duties for psychiatry visits, and tracking psychiatry services provided.
- Plan and administer therapeutic treatment, such as counseling, behavior modification, and psychosocial education, to assist inmates in managing their mental disorders and other interpersonal or environmental problems.
- Discuss progress toward treatment goals with inmates and ensure that the treatment plan is completed in a timely manner.
- Consult with the behavioral health team concerning treatment plan and amend plan as described.
- Assist in planning and implementing the goals and objectives of programs and projects.
- Direct special projects as requested.
- Provide clinical supervision, perform consultation, and teach others.
- Prepare documentation, records, and reports.
- Participate in interdisciplinary treatment team meetings.
- Document in accordance with unit policies, procedures, and facility policies when recommended and/or indicated.
- Participate in mandatory and elective educational activities, as well as orientation of new staff and inmate orientation.
- Attend weekly staff meetings and follow all team/unit protocols.
- Adhere to safety and security policies and participate in disaster drills.
- Follow security regulations and policies, with consideration of clinical factors.
- Complete case management responsibilities as required.
- Complete chart reviews as required.
- Engage in internal audit preparation and review process as directed by the Associate Director, Mental Health Programs.
- Recommend or offer input to the multi-disciplinary team for transfers to alternate levels of care and/or grade changes when requested.
- Participate in all mental health watches and log entries as directed.
- Respect the dignity and confidentiality of patients.
- Fully licensed, have temporary license, or associate license in Arizona in Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) or Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW).
- Current CPR certification.
- Master's Degree in Psychology, Social Work, or Counseling.
- At least two (2) years prior clinical experience working with forensic clients.
