Job Summary: The VETERANS HEALTH ADMINISTRATION is seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Peer Specialist to join our team. As a Peer Specialist, you will play a critical role in supporting Veterans in their recovery journey, providing a unique perspective and expertise gained from your own mental health recovery experience.

You will work collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality care, share your experience and insights to support Veterans in their recovery, and help them achieve their goals.

About You: To be successful in this role, you will need to possess a strong understanding of mental health recovery, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to work effectively in a team environment. Your personal recovery experience will be a valuable asset in this position, and you will be expected to share your insights and expertise with Veterans.

Responsibilities: As a Peer Specialist, your key responsibilities will include:
  • Participating in interdisciplinary team meetings to support Veterans in their recovery journey
  • Providing peer support and guidance to Veterans, drawing on your own mental health recovery experience
  • Helping Veterans to identify and set goals for their recovery, and supporting them in achieving these goals
  • Working collaboratively with healthcare professionals to deliver high-quality care
  • Sharing your insights and expertise with Veterans, and helping them to develop coping strategies and self-management skills
  • Supporting Veterans in accessing community resources and services to aid in their recovery


Requirements: To be considered for this role, you will need to meet the following requirements:
  • Be a Veteran with a strong understanding of mental health recovery
  • Have a minimum of 1 year of recovery from a mental health condition
  • Be certified by a recognized peer specialist training program
  • Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Be able to work effectively in a team environment
