Overview

This role is responsible for overseeing the associates in the dealer section. The primary objective of this department is to guarantee the prompt processing and adherence to State regulations and procedures. The selected candidate will be required to complete a comprehensive five-week training program prior to commencing duties at their designated location. This position encompasses a wide range of essential responsibilities within the motor vehicle functional areas of Driver or Vehicle Services.

Key Responsibilities

The following functions are fundamental and are common across all roles in this classification, and are not intended to be an exhaustive list of duties for any specific position.

Manages various transactions including the issuance, renewal, suspension, and/or revocation of driver, identity, and motor vehicle credentials; reviews driving records; inspects vehicles; assesses fines and penalties; and evaluates customer history for outstanding warrants and/or licenses/IDs from other jurisdictions.
Provides exceptional customer service to both internal and external clients by gathering necessary business, personal, and/or sensitive information to assist with all transactions aimed at resolving issues.
Recognizes situations that deviate from standard operating procedures and proposes recommendations for exceptions in line with applicable laws, rules, regulations, policies, processes, and procedures, while ensuring customer protection.
Accurately calculates, manages, and accounts for all DMV funds collected and disbursed for transactions, including but not limited to driver licenses, ID cards, titles, registrations, insurance, and driver improvement fees and penalties, as well as Federal Unified Carrier fees, Federal Highway Vehicle Use Tax, International Fuel Tax Agreement (IFTA), and International Registration Plan (IRP). Ensures all fees and deposits are reconciled and deposited appropriately.
Interprets, applies, and clarifies federal, state, and division laws, rules, regulations, policies, processes, procedures, programs, and eligibility criteria to the public, legal professionals, lien and insurance companies, law enforcement, automobile dealers, government entities, businesses, and other state jurisdictions.
Reviews and evaluates various source documents such as birth certificates, passports, court documents, bills of sale, wills, and powers of attorney necessary for the issuance of driver, identity, and motor vehicle credentials; ensures the validity, completeness, and authenticity of documents.
Utilizes various manual, computerized, and specialized systems concurrently to assess and analyze source documents, determine customer eligibility for services, and execute transactions accurately within established service levels.
Investigates, evaluates, analyzes, and exercises judgment to resolve discrepancies, identify exceptions, and make informed decisions.
Responds to customer inquiries and processes transactions for non-DMV services including voter registration, organ/tissue donor registration, warrant resolutions, red light violations, and E-Zpass transponders.
May conduct vision, written, oral, and/or road examinations to assess drivers' knowledge and skills for safe vehicle operation.
May perform inspections of vehicle equipment such as lights, horns, windshield wipers, turn signals, brakes, emissions, and exhaust systems for various types of vehicles; conducts off-site inspections for verification or assignment of vehicle identification numbers.
May operate both manual and computerized vehicle testing equipment.
Prepares various records and reports as required.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications for Motor Vehicle Operations Supervisor Applicants must demonstrate education, training, and/or experience in the following areas:

Three years of experience in document processing, which includes reviewing and evaluating records for completeness and compliance with laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies, and procedures, resolving deficiencies, interpreting information, and monitoring activities. Three years of experience in customer service, providing prompt, accurate, and courteous assistance to customers seeking information, ensuring satisfaction, and addressing complaints. Two years of experience interpreting motor vehicle laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies, and procedures. Three years of experience utilizing an automated information system for data entry, updates, modifications, deletions, retrievals, and reporting. Two years of experience operating equipment related to driver or vehicle services, such as document scanners, authenticators, credential printers, brake machines, and emissions testing equipment. Six months of experience in staff supervision, including planning, assigning, reviewing, and evaluating the work of others. Possession of a valid Driver's License (not suspended, revoked, or cancelled, or disqualified from driving).
