The Practical Nurse (LPN) is an integral part of the healthcare team, utilizing sound nursing judgment grounded in education, experience, and competency. The LPN is responsible for delivering care in accordance with UPMC LPN Practice Guidelines, policies, and state regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and arrange sterile supplies for surgical procedures.
  • Assist in passing instruments during surgeries.
  • Manage vendor trays and graft materials.
  • Support room preparation and cleanup between surgical cases.
  • Assist in circulating duties.

Work Schedule:

Shifts are from 7:00 AM to 7:30 PM, with on-call duties approximately once a week from 5:30 PM to 7:00 AM, as well as weekend on-call responsibilities based on staffing rotation.

Qualifications:

Successful completion of a Licensed Practical Nursing Program recognized by the State Board of Nursing is required. Candidates must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and interact effectively with patients of various ages.

Experience in healthcare is preferred, although prior LPN experience is not mandatory.

Skills:

  • Ability to foster positive relationships with healthcare professionals and patients.
  • Capability to navigate a complex work environment, managing multiple priorities and specialized equipment.
  • Physical stamina for frequent walking, standing, lifting, and positioning of patients.
  • Proficient computer skills for utilizing electronic health records.

Licensure and Certifications:

Maintaining state licensure in the practice location or a multistate license is essential. Candidates must complete the licensure examination within four months of hire or within one year of graduation, whichever is applicable. Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification is required.
