Under general oversight, positions in the classification of Protective Services Worker within the Office of the Public Conservator in the Department of Aging and Adult Services deliver a comprehensive array of clinical and advocacy services to both temporary and permanent conservatees, while collaborating with a multidisciplinary team.
Caseload Management
Typically, an average caseload consists of around 65 clients, which may vary based on the intensity of cases and program capacity.
Target Population
The primary demographic served by this office includes individuals who are severely disabled and unable to secure basic necessities such as food, clothing, and shelter due to chronic mental health issues or persistent substance abuse, as classified by the Diagnostic Statistical Manual (DSM).
This group may also encompass individuals engaged with the Criminal Justice System, including those detained in correctional facilities or state hospitals.
Service Scope
The Office of Conservatorship Services manages an extensive caseload of approximately 700 individuals, with nearly half residing outside of the jurisdiction in secure psychiatric facilities or residential care homes.
As such, travel is essential to fulfill the needs of conservatees and adhere to service mandates as outlined by state and county regulations, averaging around 350 miles driven monthly.
Responsibilities
The Protective Services Worker is tasked with managing an independent caseload and conducting mental health conservatorship investigations. This role necessitates interaction with various entities, including Mental Health Court, Public Defender, District Attorney, Department of Public Health, hospitals, correctional facilities, and community organizations.
