Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Public Health Policy Specialist to join our team in the City and County of San Francisco. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in public health policy and analysis, with experience in conducting complex analytical projects and developing high-quality work products.

The Public Health Policy Specialist will work under the general supervision of a Project Manager and will be responsible for leading the development of detailed project plans, implementing project strategies, and supervising and coaching junior and senior performance analysts.

The successful candidate will have a passion for government service and public policy, with a strong ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team. They will also have excellent communication and organizational skills, with the ability to develop and maintain strong working relationships with project leads and sponsors.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the development of detailed project plans, including scope and objectives, project timelines, and work breakdowns and task assignments.
  • Implement project strategies, which may include qualitative analysis, quantitative analysis, process analysis, equity analysis, benchmarking and best practice research, performance tracking and public reporting.
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with project leads and sponsors at the Department of Public Health.
  • Supervise and coach junior and senior performance analysts assigned to a given project.
  • Participate in organizational development initiatives, including annual work planning, strategic planning, staff committees, etc.

Requirements

  • Possession of a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Five (5) years full-time equivalent experience performing professional-level analytical work.
  • Three (3) years full-time equivalent experience in public health policy and analysis.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Possession of a graduate degree (Master's degree or higher) from an accredited college or university with major coursework in specialized subject matter areas such as public or business administration, management, business law, contract law, public policy, urban studies, economics, statistical analysis, finance, accounting or other fields of study closely related to the essential functions of positions in the Class series.
