Material Handler II Trainee

Barge Dock employees who are training to become proficient in the functions of a Material Handler II are required for this role.
This includes, but is not limited to, learning to assist in grain movement via truck, barge, or rail.
Key Responsibilities- Assist in grain barge loading and analyze and repair basic mechanical problems.
- Perform minor carpentry work in river terminal areas and maintain knowledge of Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) requirements.
- Work in a team environment to effectively communicate production issues and participate in morning toolbox, shift exchange/review and response meetings.
- Once qualified, provide mentoring and training to new colleagues and attend training classes in-plant or at other locations as assigned.
- Apply PE principles and standards to work area and work processes and maintain knowledge of department order of operations.
- Knowledge of the process of Sampling, weighing, generating customer tickets, and dumping customer grain trucks.
- Sweep out grain bins and scrape hoppers to remove remaining grain and rotate product as necessary.
- High School diploma or GED with strong fundamental skills (math, reading, writing).
- Previous warehouse and/or industrial plant experience preferred.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs., walk long distances, stand for long periods, climb stairs and ladders, and work at heights.
- Valid driver's license to drive company vehicles to transport self and items across site.
- Ability to use computers including Microsoft Office skills and basic math and writing skills.
- Strong attendance record, strong communication and teamwork skills, and customer focused when interacting with all site colleagues & vendors daily.
- Willingness and ability to work flexible hours, including extended hours and Saturday work during plant shutdown periods.
- Ability to operate a forklift and strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and record keeping.
